Right Stand

Can you do the right thing?
Can you do the right thing, even if it means breaking the rules for the right reasons?

Interestingly, doing this can be simple and easy but can also be challenging. It's easy when the space is to ourselves, but it's hard when we go to a larger context. And the latter is the reality we're always facing.

The societal rules and expectations we have can make or break us. But where do we stand?

I like this thought about rules. We can rely on rules but not necessarily trust them.

Rules can be detailed and comprehensive, but they can't consider every case. Trust is a special feeling. It exists among people, and we know we can trust others when they've done something that causes us to feel safe and protected beneficially. We're impacted by its consistency and genuineness shown to us. Times may change, but this is here to stay. It's one of the essential parts that strengthen human connections.

Doing right can be a big test. It can be challenging, but what's sure is that it's an achievement when we can pass it with flying colors.

And I agree with these points on doing right:

1. Doing right leads to a path of blessedness.
It takes intentionality and discernment for us to continue walking this path. We need to commit to this every day. And as we go along the way, we need to properly distinguish the right ones and not.

The scariest part is finding ourselves failing without even realizing it. Either we believe we're succeeding, or we don't know at all. We may even deceive ourselves into redefining our bad decisions as good ones. And we don't want to be trapped in either of them.

2. If we're not doing what's right, the better response is to reflect and correct the wrong.
We all want to be good-willed in our humanity, so it's proper for us to do this. If the better response isn't our intended action in this situation, then there's something wrong. Selfish urges are usually the culprit. So it's better to cut them off before anything worse happens.

3. It takes courage to do what's right.
It has become this because of the power of convention that drives society. Not giving in to this can create a disastrous effect, so we fear it to avoid this outcome. We hear of the popular choices or even the easy ones. But they're not necessarily the right ones. If fear's the roadblock, we shouldn't allow it to stop us from doing what's right.

It can be risky, but some of the greatest moments come from those who tread the path despite the risk. It becomes this because of one drive: to do what's needed to be done. If not them, who? If not now, when? We need some perseverance, determination, and truth to get to that.

For those long on the journey, we should by now have experiences of doing the right and wrong things. And this is pure wisdom.

Given this, we know that doing the right things brings us great returns.

No matter how difficult and painful, it gives us long-term gains. When we do the right things needed for ourselves, we give ourselves great benefits. There are times we need to do the right things for others. We can't see the good we can get from here, but the good things return to us when we expect it the least. But there are times we can see the benefit. When we do so with grit, the returns are big.

Every decision has a price, and it has its outcomes. And it's no doubt that the right things are worth the cost.

It also gives us positive energy. It's the best energy we can give to ourselves. Decisions not only affect our surroundings but also affect us. When we do the right thing, we feel good about ourselves. We're motivated to pursue the right path even more and can become our driving force in life. It gives us a different world to see, envision, and fight for.

So how do we push ourselves to do the right thing? Here are three points I can bring up:

1. Know the reasons for your actions.
When doubts come about doing the right thing, we need to remind ourselves of the reasons for doing it. It can give that push to take the path.

For every reason, we ensure that the intentions are right. Each has been weighed in, sought with rightful advice, and made sure to give us a sense of being led to do the right thing.

2. Take the step.
There's no progress when there's no action done. We make the first move and see how it goes. If it goes well, then good. If it needs a learning improvement, we assess, reflect, and correct it.

Life always propels us further. There's a time to stand still to evaluate. There's a time to move forward. So we move and learn as we go.

3. Keep on going.
Life gives us continuous paths to choose from until we're led to our destination. The right paths always lead us to where we want to go. So, we always keep in mind seeking to do what's right.

What does doing right make of us? It brings us to:

integrity
We know for ourselves what's right and wrong. And when we choose what's right, we follow it. Because we know it's the right thing to do. When this becomes easier, it has become a lifestyle.

bravery
We may be afraid, but we can stand up for what's right because it's the right thing to do.

responsibility
When we choose to do what's right and act on it, it has a sense of duty. This involves thinking and considering rightly and taking the right initiatives.

When we do the right thing, we can influence those around us in our own way. Every effort will be appreciated, and they can learn from us the right things we did. After all, we give a good service to the world by inspiring them with our right pursuits. That's an excellent opportunity and a powerful thing we can do.

As per  Martin Luther King, Jr. "The time is always right to do what is right." And what better way to take the right stand than now.
