Guideline Manual

Life isn't a walk in the park as they say. There are struggles we need to face, and we have to make it through them. It goes on and on.

Life wouldn't be life if it weren't for difficulties. They can make us grow and become stronger. We become more able to face what lies ahead.

Even though these challenges have become part of us since day one of our existence, we can still see how there's hope in the midst of it.

There's hope that things are going to get better one day. There's a greater hope that we await once our time here in this world is finished. So while we're still here, let's keep pressing on. Let's make the most of the time to truly live.

And to do that, here are guidelines to live by:

1. Keep up a good posture.
Life can throw us anything as it wishes. How ready are we for it? Are we willing to transcend to anything that comes our way? It can be tough, but we take the step forward.

It's okay to be vulnerable. It's where we learn how we can become more capable. We learn from loss and make an effort to do better. We continue sharpening ourselves. Straighten your back no matter what happens, and you can continue to keep going.

2. Take care of yourself.
Human beings are self-conscious by nature. We know our limitations and our weaknesses, and we know these make us become far from what's set as ideal.

We can contempt ourselves and others with the faults we understand only too well. But we're more than that. We are as important to other people as to ourselves. Find value in yourself. You can be more for being who you are when you can treat yourself with some care.

3. Make friends who think best for you.
It's okay to make friends with people. But it's no crime to choose people that can help us become better. When we feel down, they'll be there to help us get back up. Once we're given this genuine help, let's ensure that we also help ourselves.

And once we can take this in, we can be an example of what a friend ought to be like. We can help and befriend someone selflessly.

4. Assess yourself always.
We indeed desire things. Our desire can make us envy someone. We can't feel good about it at times, but the fact is there's a story behind it. We only know just a dimension of that person. And there's always going to be someone better than himself. There's going to be someone better than us.

So instead of focusing on that person, we focus on ourselves. What's something that we can do better? How are we with it? Are we improving? What are we making for a better tomorrow?

5. Set up the values you teach.
When it comes to shaping the next individuals of the future, there's no thinking twice. If we need to make that discipline, we do it. What we pass on is critical to how they'll become as they contribute to society.

Let's be courageous and committed to imparting today's young ones. Let's be good examples for them. We can do this one day at a time.

6. Check yourself first.
There's no doubt about the world's harshness. We face painful circumstances, and sometimes they drive us crazy. We feel like blaming the whole world for what we're through. We would feel like doing things we wouldn't expect ourselves to do.

But before anything, let's start to check ourselves first. Do we have unsettled issues we need to resolve with? If so, then we focus on them. We start stopping to do what we know is wrong. It's where we can be honest with ourselves and how we can come out strong from there.

7. Seek what's meaningful.
This is where we've found something to do that's worthwhile. It makes us feel engaged. Everything around us is aligned, and we do what we do at the moment.

When we pursue meaning, we work on the present for a better future. We can take the long road, no matter how hard it would be. We can sacrifice when needed. Our focus will always be for the better good. Let's walk to that path in whatever we do.

8. Be truthful.
When we need to tell ourselves and to others the truth, how do we communicate it? When we face the reality of our current circumstance, how do we accept it? When we need to say No, do we say it? When we need to live according to our values, do we do so?

Living a life of truth is what can keep us going through. It springs life into our individual being. It doesn't mean that all will turn well. But we can manage life as we find ways to navigate through it.

9. Give others the benefit they're right.
When we engage in different conversations with others, how do we fare? Do we make them an opportunity to learn something new from what we know?

Listening is paying attention and accepting what the person has to say. We allow him to express their thoughts and inform us when we're wrong. If we listen without premature judgment, trust with one another is built.

10. Be exact on what you say.
When problems come our way, how do we face them? Do we recognize it or wait until it grows big enough for us to see?

When we deal with these problems, how do we trace back to how it all started? Are we truthful to say what really happened then? It's only in being precise when we can really deal with the present and do what we can do for the future that holds.

11. Be brave to face danger.
We all need playgrounds dangerous enough to remain challenging. We don't minimize risk. We optimize it so that we can continue to develop our competence.

It doesn't help when we're sheltered. Each one of us will have to face tough situations, and the only way is to toughen up. It's in thriving where we can still be in the game.

12. Find wonder in what you're going through.
When we're handling pain and trouble in life, it can be too much. We might need some time out. We might need to see the little things to remind us that life's worth living despite the hard situation.

Let's not lose sight of life despite the difficulty. Let's live in the moment. Once we do, we can see how it can teach us. And from there, we can make the most of it no matter what happens.

For me, these guidelines tackle all aspects of life and what to do with them. And they're interconnected with one another. I admit that there are still guidelines I need to work on living by, but I'll learn as I go along. Though we experience suffering in this lifetime, it's how we live in those years that makes the beauty. Live with what you still have today.
