Defining Moments

They are considered to be the memorable ones in a person's life. They are the ones that can define who we are, and can determine on what we will become in the future.

There will be a lot of these that will come our way, and we ought to value them. If we respond to them well, we would see the good they could bring in our lives.

I'm glad that there are people we can look up to when it comes to these kind of moments, and here are these ones:

Abraham
We all know him as the father of faith. But he's just an ordinary person like us, who learned what it means to live by faith in God. We can see through the events of his life on how he did so. He had his share of triumphs and mistakes, but he was able to make his life an impact in the end.

However, Abraham's faith was tested when he was asked by God to sacrifice his son Isaac as an offering. This is an unreasonable thing God would ask, since His promises are going to be fulfilled through his one and only son. But Abraham willingly obeyed, for he believed that God can raise Isaac from being dead. In the end, his obedience was rewarded with His blessings.

It's amazing to see here that he was able to learn to walk by faith through listening to His voice.

Isaac
He is the son of Abraham whom God chose to fulfill His promise with. I'm pretty sure that his notable childhood encounter made a big mark in his life. But in spite of this, he managed to take it as a learning experience on what it means to live by faith.

He may have made mistakes like his father along the way, but he was able to live his life well. He chose to trust God in everything. He believed that God will be faithful to him, just as He was faithful to his father. And as a result, he became the father of twins Esau and Jacob.

We can see from here that he was able to learn to walk by faith through seeing his father's example.

Jacob
He is the son of Isaac whom God chose to fulfill His promise with. Now, he was known to be a deceiver. He deceived his twin brother Esau by offering him a bowl of stew in exchange for his birthright. He deceived his father Isaac by getting the blessing intended for his brother.

But in spite of this, God chose to work in Jacob. He appeared to him in a vision of a ladder, promising the same covenant of his father and grandfather. He made him learn what it feels to be deceived. He made him reconcile with his brother. And He wrestled with him. That encounter made Jacob realize how much he needed Him. So he demanded a blessing and he was given a new name, Israel.

It can be seen from here that he was able to learn to walk by faith through the experiences of his life.

We all have our own story. And whatever things that will come our way, we should learn how to trust in Him. For the God working on these three patriarchs is the same God working on us today.
